The goal of this course is to acquire pre-literacy skills such as phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, sound to letter correspondence, blending, and segmenting of words. Before a child develops the ability to read they must first understand that letters map to speech sounds. Later children will develop the ability to sense syllables and syllable types. Here is where real reading begins! The approach in this course is multisensory. We will utilize narratives, visual cues, kinesthetic cues, and auditory cues in order to set every child up for reading.
This free class will be held on Thursday nights in the Cranford Public Library from July 18 through August 29. There will be no class on Thursday, August 15. Because each class builds on the last, we ask registrants to attend all sessions. Registration is required.
